The plain-English version

What is a tenant cleaning responsibility map?

A tenant cleaning responsibility map is a room-by-room list of an office suite that marks who looks after each space. It keeps a cleaning request inside the rooms the tenant controls and leaves open questions visible.

Three marks for every room

Each room or area gets one of three marks. Tenant-controlled means the space is inside your suite and yours to arrange. Landlord-managed means the building looks after it, as is common for corridors, lobbies, elevators and shared restrooms. Unresolved means nobody has confirmed it yet. The third mark matters most. A kitchenette shared with the suite next door, or a storage room the landlord uses, is easy to assume. Marking it unresolved turns an assumption into a question you can ask.

What the map is not

A responsibility map records what the tenant believes about each room. It is not a reading of the lease and it does not grant permission over shared areas. If a room's status depends on lease terms, the building manager or the landlord is the person to ask. Write their answer on the map once you have it.

Items to leave alone

Inside the rooms you control there are usually things that should not be touched: servers and network cabinets, printers, records, lab or studio equipment, and anything on a desk that will not be cleared. The map lists these beside the room they sit in, so a cleaning request never implies handling business contents.

A short example

Picture a three-room suite on the second floor of a shared building. The private office, the open work area and the small kitchenette inside the suite door are marked tenant-controlled. The corridor and the building restrooms down the hall are marked landlord-managed. A storage closet the previous tenant also used is marked unresolved until the building manager answers. The server shelf in the office is listed as an item to leave alone. That is the whole map, and it already answers most of the questions an assessment would ask.

How a map becomes a request

The tenant cleaning responsibility map, linked below, is a free worksheet you can fill in and print. Nothing you type is sent anywhere unless you choose to copy a short summary into the request form. When the map is ready, request a clean with the rooms marked as yours and the areas to leave out. Bravo Maids reviews each request and confirms scope and availability before anything is booked. Questions people ask

Do I need a map for a one-room office?

It still helps. Even one room can sit next to a shared restroom or kitchenette, and marking those keeps the request clear.

Can the map settle a disagreement with my landlord?

No. It records what you believe and what you have confirmed. Lease questions belong with the landlord or building manager.

What if I am moving out?

Use the office handover readiness sheet as well. It adds the clearance date, remaining items and the handover deadline.
